Approximately 180 participants, including pastors, wives, exhibitors, and District staff, gathered at the Younes Conference Center in Kearney on March 14-15 for the Spring Pastors’ Conference. This was the first time the pastors had gathered as a District for their conference in-person since the October 2019 pastors’ conference, as the March 2020 conference was cancelled due to COVID-19. For both the October 2020 and March 2021 conferences, pastors gathered in smaller circuit groups to participate in a hybrid online viewing and small group discussion format.
The theme of the conference was “Paul’s Letter to the Romans,” presented by Rev. Dr. Michael Middendorf from Concordia University, Irvine. Dr. Middendorf serves as Professor of Theology, teaching a wide variety of courses related to the Bible (e.g. Old and New Testament, Greek and Hebrew, and many more), as well as courses in the Master of Arts program and teaching seminarians studying for many types of ethnic ministry. He is the author of the Romans Commentary in the latest Concordia Series.
Divine Service was held Monday afternoon at Zion, Kearney, with the offering designated for the Joint Seminary Fund. The pastors also enjoyed an evening of fellowship and games.
The Nebraska District holds pastors’ conferences each spring and fall, except for the years when the All Professional Church Workers’ Conference is held in place of the Fall Pastors’ Conference. These conferences are an important part of the eccelsiastical services the District President and staff provide to our church workers. The next conference is scheduled for October.
