The Church Is for Everyone: Disability Ministry Resources
July 26 marks the day that the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 was signed into law, and it is a good time to think about the way your congregation can welcome all people to worship — regardless of physical, mental, or developmental ability.
The LCMS Disability Task Force found that, “People with disabilities are less likely to be in worship and participate in the life of the congregation because of physical and attitudinal barriers, concerns about rejection or neglect, or the simple fact that people have not asked them to participate in worship, Bible study, fellowship, and service.”
To help you with this work, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod provides many Disability Ministry resources ON THEIR WEBSITE and the Nebraska District offers resources on our PARISH HEALTH RESOURCES page, including the following:
- One Body, Many Parts
- The Church Is for Everyone: Including people of all abilities in your next event
- Steps for Improving Ministry Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities and the Congregational Disabilities Ministry Assessment Tool
- A Lutheran Perspective on Well Being
- A Bible study for congregations and groups” Thinking About the Body of Christ (Bible study / Leader Guide)
- Curriculum Resources for Confirmation and Bible Classes
