Extending His Kingdom and blessing students in the name of Christ
These are exciting times at the University Lutheran Chapel on the University of Nebraska – Lincoln campus. The renovated Chapel is now home to a worship center; a counseling center; Concordia University, Nebraska’s graduate courses; fellowship spaces; and a place to develop connections with university students and the surrounding community. It is quickly becoming a hub for hope and healing for students from all over the world. The partnerships between the University Lutheran Chapel; GracePoint Institute for Relational Health; Concordia University, Nebraska; and the Nebraska District LCMS are just getting off the ground but are already impacting lives. These partnerships were selected to receive a generous $50,000 mission grant from Lutheran Women in Mission (LWML) at their 2019 national convention. Thanks be to God for these women who so faithfully support mission work through their giving and prayers!
The renovated Chapel has already been used for an LWML zone rally; church staff retreats; Concordia University, Nebraska retreats; campus prayer meetings; a Nebraska District staff retreat; and the monthly meeting of all campus pastors at UNL. People of all types and backgrounds flow in and out and find a vibrant, welcoming space.
The renovation project has already had an impact on international student ministry. Before the renovation, international students would often stand outside and call the director of International Student Ministry to have him come outside to meet them as they were unsure of where to go. The addition of several windows and more visible entryways helps these students feel much more comfortable as they are entering the building. Students coming to the weekday Bible studies can also now easily find the entrances and meeting areas, and enjoy lingering after events in the more welcoming spaces for fellowship. Students have already received care and counseling from GracePoint professionals at their Chapel office in the areas of anxiety, addiction, and social and academic struggles.
It is clear that God will continue to use this unique partnership to extend His Kingdom and bless students in the name of Christ.
