Family Life Ministry Moment

As we look at our own busy schedules—and the full schedules of the families we serve—it can feel overwhelming to consider adding more to our days. But we are creatures of habit. Each day, certain routines are non-negotiable no matter how heavy our load may be: that morning cup of coffee, brushing our teeth, getting dressed, eating meals, car rides, evening routines, and bedtime rituals. These moments are already built into our lives—and each provides an opportunity to attach a simple habit of faith formation.

For example, a child might brush their teeth long enough by singing “Jesus Loves Me.”  We may play Scripture in the background as we get ready for the day rather than the television or phone. Perhaps we end a meal with an intentional Bible story, devotional, or catechism instruction.

As a mom, I often felt guilty rushing out the door on busy mornings without having had a quiet devotional time with my children.  On those rushed mornings, we began attaching a short prayer to the act of pulling out of the driveway. Each day, one family member takes a turn leading a prayer for the day. What began as a hurried “faith moment” has now become a beautiful, daily rhythm that centers our family in Christ before we even leave the driveway, and we worked the quiet devotional time into our end of dinner routine.

Our faith formation efforts don’t have to look perfect or polished. When we intentionally attach faith habits to the ordinary routines of daily life, we help create lifelong habits of faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
