Overtures introduce official business to the Convention. Congregations, circuit forums, official District conferences, and District commissions, committees, and Board of Directors are encouraged to submit overtures to the convention on behalf of the ministry that we do together as a Synod, in our District, and internationally.
How did the delay of the District Convention affect the overtures process? Overtures submitted for 2021 will stand. Those who have submitted overtures were contacted to confirm that they would still like those overtures to be presented. The submission period opened September 2021 through January 2022 for any new overtures. The deadline for overtures to be submitted to the District Office was January 26, 2022. Having overtures in the office before this date allows time to better form the needed number of floor committees to work with overtures being submitted to the Convention. Overtures received after this date will be reviewed by a committee to determine if they shall be accepted for Convention consideration.
The floor committee initially met on March 7 and 10 to do their work. The proposed resolutions that came out of their meeting on March 21 are presented in the Convention Workbook. Delegates who have input for the floor committee should write the chairman and share their thoughts. The chairman is Rev. Jacob Bobby, First Trinity Lutheran Church, PO Box 540, Bloomfield, NE 68718. All correspondence should be sent with plenty of time for it to arrive prior to the start of Convention.
Floor Committee Open Hearing
The floor committee will review all input it receives when it meets on Thursday, June 23, at 6:30 p.m. Open hearings will be held Friday morning, June 24, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. All delegates and guests are invited to attend the open hearings and share their input with the committee should they so desire. The proposed resolutions will be discussed in order, and delegates may come and go as needed.
